Disclaimer: Disney sent me to Walt Disney World on an all-expenses paid trip, in exchange for my coverage of the #ZootopiaEvent, which included a visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Star Wars is everywhere! The Force has already Awakened! All opinions are my own.
It’s hard to contain the excitement one feels ever since that big announcement came from Disney that they are building a Star Wars themed land both in Orlando at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and in California’s Disneyland. There have been attraction closures, necessary for the expansion. Even Star Wars days, a mega event officially held each Spring at Hollywood Studios, was cancelled.
And everyone waits.
But you might think you should hold off on a trip to Disney Parks right now because of it.
You would be wrong.
Why? Because at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, The Force has ALREADY Awakened!
Things sure have changed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
In fact, one of my much-loved attractions, The Magic of Disney Animation (where Disney animators teach you how to draw your favorite characters), has closed. In it’s place……..STAR WARS Launch Bay!
The Star Wars Launch Bay has Storm Troopers guarding it’s entrance and perimeter. To the delight of just about everyone, Storm Troopers walk back and forth through the crowds here, at seemingly all times of day.
Weapons in hand.
Stopping occasionally to tell people to “Move Along”.
I have to admit that though I kept following them to snap photos, the little girl in me was a bit intimidated when they’d stop and head my way. Is it just me?
But if I was intimidated by the Storm Troopers, there was no preparing me for what was about to happen next…….
Meet KYLO REN!
Imagine turning the corner and being greeted by this face. That is exactly what happened to me!
Once you enter the STAR WARS Launch Bay, there are a number of interesting areas to spend time at, two of which are character meet and greets. You can visit the much-loved Chewbacca or one who definitely belongs to The Dark Side, Kylo Ren.
And let me tell you – HE WAS IN CHARACTER!
I wasn’t too worried about it at first.
I mean, I was just there for a photo. Really.
And then I noticed that Kylo Ren wasn’t looking at the camera.
HELP! SEND HELP!
Thankfully I got away from Kylo Ren and was able to explore the rest of Star Wars Launch Bay, where I got an up-close look at replica props, models, costumes, concept artwork and artifacts from the Star Wars films. My friends and I were geeking out!
There was also a special screening room where you could view a 10-minute film celebrating the creation of the Star Wars saga. The film runs continuously throughout the day, and includes exclusive interviews with the directors, writers, producers and other key players responsible for one of the most popular film series of all time.
But the excitement isn’t just contained within the Star Wars Launch Bay. In fact, if you keep your eyes peeled throughout Hollywood Studios, you just might find hidden nuggets everywhere.
I found this BB8 Cupcake at Rosie’s All American Cafe, just steps away from Disney’s Tower of Terror. This was a large cupcake with a surprise flavor! I never would have guessed it would be a lemon cupcake.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has stepped up the evening entertainment the last few years. The FROZEN fireworks last year were AMAZING (there was snow), and I’m happy to report that they’ve done it again with the Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular Fireworks Show.
But there’s more, a Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party too.
Star Wars and Dessert? I’m in! And I was, thanks to our friends at Disney.
This special event takes place in a special roped off section with perfect viewing of the night’s festivities – the Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks show. While there is no seating, there are tables with tablecloths and plenty of space for everyone.
This is a special event item offered on multiple nights from January 5, 2016 through March 19, 2016. The price is $69.00 per adult (age 10 and over) and $39.00 for children (ages 3 to 9); tax and gratuity are included. Make your reservations before you arrive!
The Symphony in the Stars Dessert Party features a selection of desserts (and you will find a mini version of the BB8 cupcake there). I also noticed a few appetizers like cheese and tomatoes.
Oh, and adults will love that all drinks, even specialty drinks are included in the event price—alcoholic beverage options with names like
- “The Force” – Pomegranate Lemonade with Jim Beam Bourbon
- “First Order Finale” – Blood Orange Lemonade with Coruba Coconut Rum
- “Jakku Juicy Cocktail” – Green Apple Lemonade with Citrus Vodka
- Corellian Smuggler’s Coffee – Coffee with Bailey’s
Even the non-alcoholic drinks were themed! Best of all, if you aren’t wanting a plate full of mini desserts, you can find a Disney ice cream cart INSIDE the event filled with Mickey Bars, Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches and more! That’s where I headed!
After the fireworks end, you also receive a FREE souvenir stein shaped like Chewbacca. So fun.
But the fireworks. INCREDIBLE. The fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom always give me goosebumps, but these take fireworks to a different level entirely.
Well done, Disney! You can’t miss them! Worth getting a park hopper ticket just to hop over at night to see!
