Disclaimer: Disney and ABC have invited me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses paid trip, in exchange for my coverage of these events, which includes Disney’s Queen of Katwe red carpet premiere and more. As always, all opinions are my own.
In just a matter of days, I’m heading off to California for a whirlwind few days spent with amazing bloggers and walking among talented actors, all within the backdrop of Hollywood.
If it’s one thing I’ve learned over the past few years, it’s that this will be a one-of-a-kind experience, with unexpected twists and turns that even I couldn’t predict. A few memories stand out to help prove my point. There was the time I sang with Vin Diesel. Or that time I danced with ELLEN! Remember when Molly Ringwald asked to join our table. You can’t predict these things folks!
So, you can imagine my thoughts as I head into this week.
Excitement doesn’t even cut it. There’s nothing quite like attending a red carpet premiere and walking down that red carpet, or purple carpet, or blue carpet! In fact, now that I think about it, every premiere I’ve attended has had a different color carpet. Now I’m wondering what to expect for Tuesday night, when I’ll be walking the carpet for Disney’s QUEEN OF KATWE premiere.
Unlike premieres I’ve attended before, this is not the classic Disney animated film that so many expect with a Disney movie. But this is one thing that I can expect from Disney Studios – every year, there is an amazing non-animated film that speaks volumes with its messages. In years’ past, I remember films like THE HELP, SECRETARIAT and a favorite, REMEMBER THE TITANS.
This year, that film is QUEEN OF KATWE.
“Queen of Katwe” is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
I’ve heard from many friends who have already screened the film, that this is one to treasure. Stay tuned, as I’ll have my full movie review up after the trip and my immediate reactions on social media starting Monday night!
Before I head out to the premiere, I’ll have the unique opportunity to interview Director Mira Nair, film stars Golden Globe® nominee David Oyelowo (“Selma”), Oscar® winner and Tony Award® nominee Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”) and newcomer Madina Nalwanga along with the real-life inspirations of the film.
The focus isn’t just on the big screen, as we’ll head on over to check out what ABC will be offering us this fall! I cannot wait!
We’ll have the opportunity to screen the Season 6 premiere episode of ONCE UPON A TIME! No spoilers, don’t worry, but we’ll be meeting with Co-Creators and Executive Producers Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz, so let me know what questions you have!
Premieres September 25th at 8:00|7:00c on ABC!
Next up, ABC’s Tuesday lineup for comedy and what may just be this season’s funniest newcomer, AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE!
I have a funny feeling this is one that I’ll be able to relate to (ON SO MANY LEVELS)!
Katie Otto (Katy Mixon, “Mike and Molly”), a confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, raises her flawed family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut, filled with “perfect” mommies and their “perfect” offspring. Watch the season premiere of American Housewife on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:30|7:30c on ABC!
Premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:30|7:30c on ABC!
Leading Tuesday night off before AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE will be a fan favorite, THE MIDDLE! Starring Emmy Award winner Patricia Heaton (Debra from EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND), this is one addition to the agenda that I’m dying for! I’ve been a fan of hers, well, since we shared something in common – at least in television history. She was a “Debra” who married into an Italian family, just like me! Now, in THE MIDDLE, she plays a different kind of mom, and still gets the laughs!
We’ll be meeting Patricia Heaton and other cast members and touring the set!
Premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:00|7:00c on ABC!
ABC just added one more surprise on the agenda!
We’ll be able to meet actors from THE REAL O’NEALS and take a tour of the O’Neal family’s house set as they are heading into Season 2. It’s always a real treat to go inside the sets and see what goes on behind the scenes (and how small these spaces really are, yet look so big on tv)!
So mark your calendars for October 11th! Premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9:30|8:30c on ABC!
Follow along this week Monday, September 19th – Wednesday, September 21st!
