Today I’m talking about kids and dental disease thanks to this sponsored post and partnership with Firefly.
My daughter is 9 years old. With that age comes a lot more independence where mom doesn’t seem to be needed as much.
She can help out around the house. She can certainly dress herself (though surprisingly still wants me to pick our her clothes each day). She can brush and style her hair (except for ponytails, which require a little help from mom).
Long gone are the days where I would stand just outside her bathroom door to make sure she was doing everything just right. Washing her hands. Flushing the toilet. Brushing her teeth. To be honest, it’s kind of nice being at the stage where she can get ready for bed herself and all I have to do is show up to tuck her in and say goodnight.
Or do I?
You see, a little trip to the dentist and I was quickly reminded that she is still a child. Sometimes she might go too quickly through that getting ready for bed routine. Every once and a while she might even skip brushing her teeth – I don’t know this to be true, I just know that I wouldn’t notice. Bad mama.
While there were no cavities (thank goodness), there was a definite need to pay closer attention to how and where she was brushing. So, mama is paying a little closer attention these days and doing my best to make sure we can avoid any unexpected trips to the dentist.
Why do we need to care about kids oral health?
FACT: Dental Disease is the most common disease in children.
FACT: Half of all kids in the U.S. have dental disease (including decayed, missing & filled teeth).
FACT: Dental Disease is the #1 reason for Emergency Room Visits.
I knew that taking care of my daughter’s teeth was important, but I’m shocked at these statistics. Shocked. Emergency room visits? 50% of kids have dental disease?
It’s time we all paid closer attention to our kids, not just the little ones who are learning, but the older ones who are starting to establish their routines for the rest of their life.
Thankfully we have the help of Firefly, who wants to help our kids have “Good. Clean Fun.”
Firefly is not only #1 in kids manual toothbrushes, but they happen to have products featuring the coolest characters in town. I’m talking about favorite friends like Barbie, Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake. You’ll also discover Star Wars, Spider-Man, Avengers and Angry Birds. We’ve got stormtroopers and and light sabers along with a fun brush from The Secret Life of Pets.
From toothbrushes (manual and powered) to anticavity fluoride rinse and travel kits, Firefly is there helping our kids where they just might need it most. Products are found at favorite stores like Target, Walgreens and Walmart.
Stay stocked up with several fun options for kids and maybe, just maybe, hang outside their bathroom door every once and a while to make sure everything is going okay. Let’s make kids and dental disease be two phrases that aren’t common together anymore.
Now for some extra fun…
