Today I’m recalling a day that scared me half to death. I’m grateful to my friends at Baby Health Care, Inc. for sponsoring this post and my story.
I remember the moment like it was yesterday. I’d given birth to a beautiful baby girl the day before. I wasn’t feeling all that well as I’d had some complications during labor. It was late at night and thankfully my husband was still at the hospital with me (truth be told, he slept there on the little couch). Our little girl was in the room with us, in my arms, as it hadn’t been all that long since I had nursed her. I was just waiting for the nurses to come and take her back to the nursery.
And then it happened.
I noticed our baby girl turning blue.
Scared doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings in the moment. Some panic set in (as it had 24 hours ago when I had labor complications). Motherhood was not off to an easy start.
My husband and I deal with emergencies very differently, something that really stood out that day. As a team we were great, because our instincts were so different, that it covered all bases.
He ran to the phone to call for help.
Me…I sat there watching my little sweetheart turn blue and I couldn’t wait for the nurses. I saw a nasal aspirator and used it. It quite possibly saved her life, as her color returned before the staff had time to run down the hall and into our room.
From that moment on, I made sure I always had a nasal aspirator in the house and within arm’s reach.

I recently discovered something that can benefit parents and kids alike. You can own a hospital grade nasal aspirator yourself! Chances are you’d never need one to save your child’s life, but you might just need one to save you both from misery. Remember when little babies get that first cold or ear infection? It’s miserable (and I can really say that right now as I’m recovering from the flu)!
Baby Health Care, Inc. is excited to introduce the BabySmile S-502, a hospital grade nasal aspirator that is electric and built to make home nasal care accessible and convenient.
It can clean out nasal mucus and prevent ear infections and other potential baby illnesses. It’s on my must-have list for parents and would make a great baby shower gift! No need for that bulb nasal aspirator anymore – this is easier.
