This was my little one 2 years ago……on the 4th of July! I made her a 4th of July T-shirt and wanted to share how easy it was with you.
- Cotton No-Pocket T-shirt (I find these at Old Navy and can pair with a coupon)
- 4 White Star Buttons (I found these at Hobby Lobby)
- Red Ribbon
- White Ribbon
- White Thread
- Steam-A-Seam 2 Double Stick Fusible Web– found at most hobby/fabric stores
Simply create a flag shape on the T-shirt using the buttons and ribbon, by cutting 2 different lengths of ribbon, alternating them in pattern.
First, sew the buttons individually on the T-shirt.
Next, either sew the ribbon directly onto the T-shirt or use the Fusible Web for a no-sew version. You’ll need an Iron if using the Fusible Web, and be sure to follow the directions on the package.
If you’ve never used Fusible Web before, be sure to see my Fusible Web Applique Tutorial from a Thanksgiving Shirt post I did.
NOTE: You could cut out white fabric stars and use instead of buttons. You could also use red and white fabric stripes instead of ribbon. I used the ribbon since I already had those colors readily available.
CARE: Be sure to turn the T-shirt inside out when washing on delicate.
You might want to get a T-shirt a couple sizes too big, as my daughter is still able to wear hers this year (probably the last year though).
It couldn’t be easier!
Happy Almost 4th of July!
