Disclaimer: Disney sent me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses paid press trip, in exchange for my coverage of the red carpet premiere of Cinderella, which included the pre premiere reception at the El Capitan Theatre and enjoying the Cinderella movie costumes and glass slipper. All opinions are my own.
After JCPenney hosted us bloggers at the Glam Ball, where they prepped us for the red carpet, it was time to get dressed.
I had chosen a teal colored floor length gown with ruffles and shoes that Cinderella herself might envy. Love the sparkle!
We were staying at the Loews Hollywood Hotel, which is literally right across the street from the El Capitan Theatre. That location meant that not only did we not have to walk far, but we had to pass right by the Dolby Theater and those famous Oscar steps.
So I, along with many fabulous bloggers from around the country, posed on that Oscar staircase before we enjoyed the next adventure. There were a lot of onlookers and many took photos of us…..so fun! (I’m almost exactly in the middle of the photo)
Despite a little rain, we made it! This was my very first time experiencing everything a red carpet premiere had to offer. Disney was going all out and I spied chandeliers hanging from the tents. This was going to be a night to remember.
But first, there was a pre premiere reception, hosted by JCPenney, inside the El Capitan Theatre.
In my opinion, there are 2 iconic Cinderella items. I can only imagine the pressure that went in to re-imagining the original designs of the ball gown and the infamous glass slipper. The following day we were able to talk with costume designer Sandy Powell about just that (and I’ll be bringing you that interview soon).
The glass slipper really isn’t glass at all. I guess that’s for practical reasons as I had always wondered why the glass slipper never shattered when Cinderella ran down the stairs.
Sandy Powell teamed up with Swarovski to create this amazing glass slipper made of Swarovski crystals. It was the very first thing my eyes were drawn to as I entered the theatre and I was mesmerized. Despite the slipper being behind glass, it was simply stunning.
Though Cinderella (aka Lily James) herself told us that the glass slipper fits no human foot, I like to dream it’s a size 6 1/2.
As to why there’s a beautiful butterfly on the slipper…..well, there is a reason and it comes directly from the film. More on that during my film review!
In the lobby of the theatre was a breathtaking view of Cinderella’s ball gown. This was the actual costume worn by Lily James. The lighting in the theatre made it look much lighter, but there was no denying its’ beauty.

I then headed down to the lower level of the El Capitan Theatre where we joined JCPenney for some drinks and light appetizers while looking at some of the great items for little girls found at their stores and online.
But there were more costumes and props from the film to be seen…….
Here is the Fairy Godmother’s costume, which actually had lights that plugged into a battery pack for special effects.
These are the costumes the Prince and Ella wore in the early scenes of the movie.
Ta-Da! Except for Cinderella’s ball gown, this green ball gown of the Wicked Stepmother is the showstopper! Of course, with green meaning “envy” it was the perfect color choice for the role Cate Blanchett plays so well.

What an amazing day hosted by JCPenney we had so far….the Glam Ball and the pre premiere reception. But it was about to get even more exciting……
We were steps away from the red carpet! My first red carpet experience complete with celebrity sightings, red carpet selfies, and the official premiere party to follow. Follow along on Friday as I’ll be bringing you everything from the red carpet. And next week look for interviews with the cast, film review of Cinderella and more.
CINDERELLA opens in theaters everywhere on March 13th!
