Disclaimer: Disney sent me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses paid press trip, in exchange for my coverage of these events, including this press event at Walt Disney Animation Studios with Big Hero 6 and Feast. All opinions are my own.
Things are busy at Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California. You see, “Big Hero 6” is the 54th feature film from Walt Disney Animation Studios and it’s set to release November 7th.
Back in July when I had the chance to visit with both directors Don Hall and Chris Williams and Producer Roy Conli, they said the last few months have had 400 people working 60+ hour weeks to get “Big Hero 6” ready.
What a production! I was about to see why!
There are BIG expectations for “Big Hero 6” and with Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”) behind it, it’s bound to be yet another Disney animation hit.
So, I was thrilled to head over to the Animation building on the Disney lot to check things out, get some inside scoop, talk with the directors and producer, and yes, see never before seen footage that wasn’t final yet.
It was Blogger Press Day!
So, we all were supposed to have special “Big Hero 6” blogger badges to enter. They couldn’t find my badge. I wasn’t the only one as Drew was in the same boat.
It was all good, because the next thing I knew, I was upgraded to “STAFF”!
That is one souvenir I’ll be keeping!
Here’s some scoop about “Big Hero 6” –
From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter).
When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”
Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring breathtaking action with all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”).

Yes, “Big Hero 6” is Marvel, just a lesser-known comic series. Did you know that? I didn’t. And since I was going to be at the press junket for “Guardians of the Galaxy” later in the week, this was just extra Marvel fun. Haven’t seen my interviews with Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt and more? Check out my Entertainment Tab above!!
And while it’s inspired by Marvel and is action-based, it’s sweet and emotional too. There are issues of death and grief (brother) and let’s face it, Baymax is huggable!!!
FUN FACT: The walk of Baymax was based on a baby penguin. Can everyone say Awwww?
Meet the characters!
Let me introduce you to the city of San Fransokyo, which they admit wasn’t too creative. It’s the combination of San Francisco and Tokyo. If you look at the images, you’ll see the influence of both cities and cultures.

While the film certainly wasn’t done yet, we had the opportunity to see extended scene selections and loved what I saw! Can’t wait to check it out in theaters!
But there is one film, a short exactly, which I was able to see in full and was among the first to do so (only the 5th or 6th time seen in the world). You will too, as it will be seen in theaters everywhere right before “Big Hero 6”. I’m talking about Disney’s “Feast”.
Thanks to Disney, we were able to meet Patrick T. Osborn, creator and amazingly talented animator of Disney’s “Feast”, and learned how he considers this project the opportunity of a lifetime. After that, we fell in love with Winston the Terrier.

Who wouldn’t? Winston is simply adorable. We follow him as he journeys with his owner through the lens of “food”. You see, as his owner grows and changes, so does Winston’s diet. It’s true and incredibly funny yet sweet at the same time. When his owner is a bachelor, oh the snacks Winston gets to eat. But then enter a “girlfriend” and things change.
FUN FACT: There might be a wedding. 🙂 And…..Patrick’s wife’s wedding dress was the inspiration for the wedding dress in the short. Love that!
Love “Feast” and know my 7 year old will too! She’s the animal lover in the family.
Did I mention that I was THIS CLOSE to the “Froze” Oscar? 🙂 Yes, it’s housed in the Animation Building!
I hope you are excited to see “Big Hero 6” and “Feast”! Here’s a quick look for you to hold you over until November!
