Launched by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security, the Stop The Bleed campaign is focused on saving lives. I’m grateful to be partnering with SSI Guardian to help educate the public about Bleeding Control Kits in this sponsored post.
Emergencies. Big and small. They happen every day, every hour, every minute. Yet all too often they are just numbers, unless and until it happens to you.
I’m no stranger to emergencies. For my family, one emergency turned fatal. An anaphylactic reaction during a chemotherapy session and my mom was gone. Life was forever changed in just a matter of minutes. Minutes! I often think about the people who were with her during those scary moments – the nurses, the paramedics who arrived on scene, and yes, the other patients watching helplessly.
But what if you didn’t have to feel helpless in certain emergencies?
In this day and age, we’ve watched on television as college campuses are locked down while a shooter is on the loose. We sit on the highway as the radio informs us that there’s a five car pileup ahead. Emergencies are happening all around us. Sometimes, bleeding is a serious issue, and that’s what I want to talk to you about today….how you and I can help Stop The Bleed.
According to the Department of Homeland Security a Person Can Bleed Out in Less than Five Minutes
Every second counts.
That’s exactly why the Stop The Bleed campaign was created. Every second counts when it comes to getting bleeding under control, whether from a mass shooting in a public place, a car accident, or even an accident at home.
SSI Guardian offers Bleeding Control Kits and a wealth of information with the goal of providing training for everyone about what to do in an emergency bleeding situation.
SSI Guardian? SSI Guardian was created in response to increased threat risks and the absence of standards regarding school safety and security. They are on the forefront of not only school safety and security but dealing with emergency situations in general.
I’ll be honest. I’m not sure I’d know what to do if faced with a bleeding emergency, but I do know that I’d be one of the “helpers”.
You’ve probably heard the saying that is often attributed to Mister Rogers – that when catastrophe strikes and is overwhelming, “look for the helpers”. They’ll be there. I like that thought and it’s always true. People are there to help in times of tragedy, emergency.
I remember being trained in the workplace for sudden cardiac failure and there were medical kits in certain locations. Stop The Bleed Kits are very similar.
Stop the Bleed kits include pressure dressings, gauze bandages, tourniquets, and other tools, along with clear, easy to understand instructions to help you in an emergency situation. North American Rescue Individual Bleeding Control Kits and Bleeding Control Public Access Stations were developed to be placed in all populated areas, including airports, shopping malls, stores, school classrooms, school buses, sports stadiums, and other public places.
Bleeding Control Kits are now being placed in public spaces to be used in case of emergency. The kits are actually displayed and demonstrated in various episodes of ‘Code Black’.
