American Girl’s New Bitty Baby Dolls – Come Meet Ours!

Just recently, on August 27, 2013, little girls all around the world (and a few moms) squealed with delight at the debut of American Girl’s newly enhanced Bitty Baby line of high-quality 15-inch baby dolls, outfits, and accessories.

I was smiling with delight (okay, maybe squealing) a month prior to the big debut.  You see, I attended the official American Girl announcement while I was in Chicago during the Blogher conference.  I was so very fortunate to receive a coveted invitation to the American Girl Bitty Baby Event, held at Chicago’s American Girl Place, a flagship store that was simply stunning.  It was there that the announcement was made.

Bitty Baby has been a doll for millions of girls ages 3 and up, but now there are even more options, including 11 different dolls with various skin tones and hair- and eye-color combinations.  For some children, having a doll that looks just like they do (or did as a baby) is so special.  It’s part of the magic of American Girl.

While at Chicago’s American Girl Place Bitty Baby Blogger Event, I enjoyed a bit of browsing.  The dolls were simply beautiful. The furniture and accessories top notch.  And can we just talk about fashion?  Bitty Baby dolls have the cutest little outfits and it had me missing those “baby” years of dressing my little one.  🙂

After some shopping, I headed to the American Girl Cafe, where we were delighted with a selection of hors d’oevures and desserts.  The room of happy moms became silent as the big reveal was announced.  Not only would American Girl be expanding the Bitty Baby doll line, BUT……we would each be getting our own Bitty Baby.

Yes, I would be getting my very own American Girl Bitty Baby doll.  Um, wait a minute.  Let me clarify.  With a certain someone’s 6 year old birthday around the corner, it was my daughter that would be surprised with a bright pink package!

First, I had to select which doll I wanted.  With 11 dolls to choose among, I decided to get as close to what my daughter looked like as a newborn.  I chose the doll with light skin, dark brown hair, and brown eyes.

 

 

What I love is that each Bitty Baby arrives with Bitty Baby and Me, the first in a series of five hardcover picture books that inspire fun ways to play……..with characters matching the hair color/skin that you chose for your doll.

The new Bitty Baby picture-book collection, brought to life by Newbery Honor Award author Kirby Larson and award-winning illustrator Sue Cornelison, follows a little girl and her beloved Bitty Baby doll as they discover the world around them. The heartwarming tales help little girls shine bright by encouraging curiosity, generosity, confidence, and kindness.

Each book also comes with a special “For Parents” section that focuses on the social and emotional experience of preschoolers and offers parents tips to help their little girls become more confident, patient, and independent.

 

The day finally arrived.  A package on the doorstep.  My heart was racing a bit.  Would she love her Bitty Baby? Oh, her very first American Girl doll.  She’s always scooped up the American Girl catalog we receive in the mail and poured through it.  Now, she’ll have her own.

The Bitty Baby doll arrived dressed in a signature sleeper, along with a special “wishing star” keepsake toy and Bitty Baby and Me hardcover book.

She’s 15″ tall with light skin, dark brown hair, and brown eyes that open and close. She has a cloth body, and her head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl.

She’s perfect!

Well, we had to get some matching doll/girl outfits to add to this birthday surprise!  One for spring/summer and another for fall/winter!

I’ve got one happy little girl!

• In-Store Reading Events: On every Tuesday and Thursday in September, little girls and their parents can hear a reading of Bitty Baby and Me at American Girl retail locations nationwide.

• Sweet Moments with Bitty Baby Video Contest: Starting August 27, 2013, parents are encouraged to create an original video clip (up to 60 seconds) of their little girl’s sweetest moments with her Bitty Baby doll, then submit the video at americangirl.com/bittyparents for a chance to win one of two grand prizes worth $1200 each. Videos must be received by October 20, 2013.
