With Strawberry Shortcake: The Glimmerberry Ball Movie and Strawberry Shortcake: Berrywood Here We Come
just released this week, Strawberry Shortcake is bound to be a popular choice this Halloween. But then again, she’s been popular for years………and while I haven’t ever dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake, I have had her as my birthday theme……it’s true! I still have the decorations too, which I totally plan to use one year for my daughter.
While Strawberry Shortcake’s look has changed a bit over the years, the basic image has remained the same, and it’s simple to re-create for a Do-It-Yourself Halloween Costume! Not only would this be fun to do, but it could save you quite a bit of money, as costumes can be a bit pricey. You might have most of the supplies at home already! With a little help from my friend Emily, we’ve put this together just for you.
What you will need (dress option):
– Red dress
– White apron – you can either use an old one that’s laying around, or cut one out of white fabric, such as an old sheet or pillowcase
– Green or white tights/knee socks
– Brown or black shoes
What you will need (shirt/skirt option):
– This option is a great one for moms who have little girls in ballet, because you can use one of their tutus as the skirt
– For the shirt, any striped t-shirt will do – pink and white, red and white, green and white – as long as it goes with the rest of the color scheme
– Using some red and green felt from a craft store like Michaels or JoAnn’s, draw out a strawberry. Then, cut it out and hot glue or safety pin it onto the shirt. Make a smaller one as well to attach to Strawberry’s hat
– Green or white tights/knee socks
– Brown or black shoes
For the hat:
– Find a sun hat/floppy outdoors hat (if you don’t already own one, find one in summer clearance sections at local stores)
– Cover the hat with pink fabric. Tie a red ribbon around the crown of the hat, and attach the smaller strawberry that you’ve cut out of your felt fabric
– If you’re feeling very ambitious, you can also attach some red yarn to the hat to resemble Strawberry’s fire-engine red hair
SNEAK PEAK: Stay tuned as I’ll be bringing you the scoop on these two new Strawberry Shortcake releases soon, thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment! AND…..I’ll be giving copies away too! WOO HOO!
