Brought to you by Dr Pepper® and Albertsons Companies.
It’s that time of year.
You might think that I’m talking about back to school or all things “pumpkin spice”, but in this family, the end of summer brings something even more exciting…college football!
You see, though I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up from the time I was a young girl, I only had one prerequisite for my future college – it had to have a football team. That might sound strange, but I felt like it was part of the college experience – weekend games, mascots, and memories. Oh, and it was.
This time of year you can find my husband and I glued to the television, watching our favorite teams (though I dare say we don’t necessarily cheer for the same ones).
He’s responsible for the schedule and making sure we don’t miss a thing.
Me, well, I’m responsible for getting our game day snacks together. You can’t exactly “homegate” or even “tailgate” without the proper food and drink, especially in Texas.
With this Saturday’s lineup, you can bet I’ve already shopped at my local Tom Thumb here in Dallas.
This week has been incredibly busy because it was the first week of school, so I opted for snacks that wouldn’t take much prep work.
I found freshly baked brownies in the bakery section and knew exactly what I would do to make them perfect and semi-homemade for game time.
Football Brownies
- Make or buy cake brownies
- Using a sharp knife, cut each brownie into the shape of a football.
- Melt white candy melts in the microwave (30 seconds at a time, then stir).
- Place melted white candy melts in a plastic baggie and snip off one corner to pipe the “icing” on the football – to look like football laces (or use professional piping bag).
Of course, Tom Thumb had an incredible selection of cheese and crackers for our savory snacks. I even found some football themed napkins in the seasonal section.
For drinks, I stocked up on Dr Pepper®.
Why? Who doesn’t love a great soda while cheering on their favorite team?
Truth be told, there’s another reason I stocked up on Dr Pepper.

More GameDay Fun:
If you like this post, you’ll love these that I’ve picked out just for you!
These are on my list for this weekend!
This sounds great for game day. We love Brownies and Dr Pepper. Thank you so much for sharing
What a cute idea! This is very simple, but turns things into more fun for a football party
Oh the high school football games I sat through. Seven years worth and that’s not counting the years I was in high school! Sadly I only made it to two college games before my daughter was no longer cheering but the spirit of the game still lives within me. We always sat by the band. I can still hear the band play the fight song on occasion when the wind is blowing just right. Your delightful brownies would have been perfect during those high school games.
Now… we have the grandkids in the same high school and next year Austin will be off to college. Full circle and it’s time for college football.
I love the melted chocolate idea for the footballs. That is the perfect touch!
It sounds like you have incredible memories around high school and college football games. So do I! Many of them.
Those brownies are so cute! They make the PERFECT snack for watching college football games!
Thanks Sara! Perfect for anytime really (I mean chocolate, right?), but extra fun for gameday!
