This past fall, I hosted a LeapFrog Learn, Create & Share Party with a great group of children. We spent time testing out all the latest LeapFrog toys, including the new LeapPad, but the kids were also excited about something else…….the snacks!
I found the idea for the Frog Brownie Bites from The Seven Year Cottage, but knew I wanted to change things up a little bit, as her tutorial called for toothpicks. With young kids in our group, I didn’t want to use toothpicks…..just in case.
- Miniature Cupcake/Muffin Wrappers
- Brownie Bites – packaged, found in the bread/muffin section usually
- Blue Food Coloring (you can purchase natural food coloring if you prefer)
- Blue Sugar Crystals (I used Wilton’s , found at Michael’s)
- Edible eyes
- Candy Fruit Slices (green)
- Gum Drops (green)
- Licorice Bites
- Ziploc Sandwich Bags for use with frosting
Place each Brownie Bite inside a miniature muffin wrapper.
Prepare Frosting (store bought or homemade). Add small amount of blue food coloring to the frosting until you get the right shade of blue you would like for the water.
Frost the Brownie Bites. I prefer to put the frosting inside a Ziploc sandwich bag. Then I cut a small tip off a corner. It’s my makeshift frosting bag. Less mess and more control.
Sprinkle frosted Brownie Bites with the Blue Sugar Crystals.
I actually kept many of the Brownie Bites just like this to reflect the water, and then made only 1 frog per child. Less work and just as cute.
To create the Frogs on top:
Add a Green Fruit Slice on top of the frosting. Cut licorice in small bits and add for the frog’s tongue.
Add a tiny bit of frosting at the bottom of 2 green gum drops. Attach these to the green fruit slice for the frog’s ears. Use frosting to adhere the edible eyes.
It was October, and edible eyes were hard to come by (everyone buying them for Halloween). So, we had different colored eyes….white and yellow. 🙂
We had frog plates for extra fun…Hefty Zoo Pals.
These are perfect for a Frog Themed Party, Bug Themed Party, Disney’s Princess and the Frog Party, LeapFrog Party, or just for some extra fun!
Only problem is….you might have some extra candy fruit slices around the house when you are done. I could only find multi-colored packages and had to take the greens out. 🙂
