**GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED**
Congratulations to: #8 Nancy
Not too long ago, a certain book really touched me. If you have been with me a while, you probably recall the book. It’s focus was on what type of people you’d want to be role models for your child. Characteristics. Traits. Virtues. Talents.
I’ll be honest, having lost my mom the year before I became pregnant really made me focus on what I’d want my child to know about life…..ya know, just in case. That’s why the book touched me so much. The book……Heroes for my Son.
Brad Meltzer created a New York Times Best Seller immediately, and I understand why. He created that original book for his son.
I’m excited to tell you about the next installment (i.e. book) ……this time for his daughter, Heroes for My Daughter.
The list of heroes for his daughter is a bit different, and I’m so impressed by his selections yet again. Not only will they inspire daughters around the world, but I have to admit that I was inspired myself.
This beautiful gift book honors men and women from all walks of life….from family members like his mom and wife, to those quite famous like Marie Curie, Anne Frank, and even Carol Burnett. He quickly paints a picture of what trait made this person stand out, and combines it with a photo and quote from the person.
Some I knew quite well and would likely add to “my list of heroes”. Others I knew well, but looked at in a different way after reading….like Sally Ride. Yes, the first American woman in space. Yes, she had a PhD in physics. Yes, she was fearless. But Brad Meltzer wanted his daughter to see something in particular…………that while all those things were true, Sally Ride had seen an opportunity and grabbed it. A lesson we all want to teach our daughters (and be reminded of ourselves).
As I’ve said about “Heroes for my Son”, “Heroes for my Daughter” is a book with one beautiful purpose, to inspire. It certainly does.
