Disclaimer: Disney, Marvel, Dreamworks & ABC Family sent me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses paid press trip, in exchange for my coverage of these events, including my Chris Pratt interview. All opinions are my own.
Out in California, during my 4-day whirlwind press trip, I was placed in very good company. Or bad, depending on how you look at it. After all, at one point I was thrown in with the Guardians of the Galaxy, outlaws who’ve been given the opportunity to do a bit of good and a bit of bad!
So goes my interview with the legendary outlaw, Star-Lord!
Who?
Star-Lord! (I just love the part in the movie, and you might have seen it in the previews!).
Yes, I along with 24 bloggers sat down for an interview with Chris Pratt as Star-Lord!

You can tell that being the face of a new Marvel project is still resonating with Chris Pratt. You could see the excitement in his eyes, feel the anticipation of the film’s release (August 1st) as he spoke, and hear it in his voice.
Really? YES!
CHRIS PRATT IS THE REAL DEAL:
We were among a select few who were able to see the new Marvel movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, the night before the interview. None of the actors knew that. At one point in the interview, Chris was describing his most memorable scene. It was clear that we all knew what he was talking about and he seemed incredibly surprised. He discovered we’d seen the film and when he did…..
“Dude, isn’t it so good?” – he said this with such a childlike excitement. His eyes widened and he leaned closer to us. He was incredibly eager to find out what we thought. He was proud. He was happy. It’s rare that you can get such a moment with a celebrity, to catch them off-guard.
And when he was called an iconic hero…..he realized his posture just wasn’t fit for a hero. He sat up a little taller and put his shoulders back. So funny, and real.
This is the kind of guy Chris Pratt is…..they type of guy you would have over for barbecues in the backyard. A real down-to-earth kind of guy. A little side-note: He saw one of the new personalized Coke bottles on the table with the name Chris on it. It wasn’t for him, but he thought that it so exciting. See, he’s just like us!!
IMAGINE CHRIS PRATT AS HANS SOLO or LUKE SKYWALKER!
Chris Pratt realized that he will be an iconic hero for kids of this generation and might just be the #1 Halloween costume for boys this October. He knows the value and importance of that for young children.
“I remember pretending to be Han Solo in my backyard, or pretending to be Indiana Jones, or Luke Skywalker as a kid. I mean, comic books and storytelling of this magnitude is, what really helped me cultivate my imagination as a young kid, you know. And to think that kids are going to be out and they’re going to watch this and they’re going to feel that way.”

Did Chris Pratt get into comic books as a kid?
YES, but it was a luxury. One time he won $300 playing Bingo with his mom and splurged on comic books, one of which actually was Guardians of the Galaxy! But it wasn’t the words or the content that drew Chris to them. It was the art….he loved to draw the comic book heroes. He was drawn to the covers.
Chris Pratt as Star-Lord aka Peter Quill
Chris described wearing Peter Quill’s long jacket for the first time. “Actually another great moment is the first time I put that jacket on and walked, I was like, oh my god, the jacket was totally telling me how Peter Quill would walk, you know.”
I do know, and you will too, once you see the movie. In fact, Peter Quill has some serious dance moves that you will see firsthand. Apparently Chris Pratt didn’t need dance lessons for those…..he’s got the moves! The dancing and music in the film is so fresh (despite being older) and fun, and surprisingly it’s throughout. That’s why I’m in love with the soundtrack!
The soundtrack to the film will be released July 29th (but can pre-order now)- Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack: Awesome Mix Vol.1 and this Awesome Mix Vol. 1 actually has a bit of importance in the film…..but I can’t tell you until Friday, when my review comes out! Nope, can’t tell until Friday!
Funny thing is that Chris Pratt has a love/hate relationship to the music as he would exercise to it. I can totally understand!
Speaking of exercise and training for the film. Chris said, “Oh the fight scenes were pretty intensive, I mean, we had about six weeks of rehearsal before we even started shooting in London and we did stunt rehearsals every single day. And so a big part of that was, uh, was learning, training, refining the fight scenes. So we would learn a fight scene for a couple of weeks and then it would end up changing, and we’d learn it again.”
“I secretly think it was like a way for them to get me to lose even more weight, they’re like, Hey, Chris, even more stunt rehearsal, can you believe it, this stunt is you running on a treadmill. We did a ton of training.”

What a great interview and I even have this great Star-Lord action figure (with Chris Pratt’s voice) to remember it by (unless one of my nephew’s confiscates it first). Though I must say Star-Lord’s mask is a bit too scary for me! 🙂

Sounds like this was a super fun interview! And Chris seems great. Can’t wait to see the movie this weekend!!
How fun!! We can’t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy — and I’m totally jealous you got to meet Star Lord!
What an incredibly fun film!! I can already hear my grandson asking me to make his Star Lord costume! And I had no idea the intensive training actors sometimes have to go through. Wow!!
wow. it must be really cool to see an actor in real person! much more to interview him and not just ask for an autograph. lucky you
Chris seems like a really down to earth guy and makes for a good role model. (And only bad when absolutely necessary! And with you as ‘Ravager Outlaw!’) Will be awaiting your full review … and then make haste to the cinema to see it on the big screen!
This is so cool! I’m always jealous of you bloggers who meet famous people!!
So much fun! I’m loving reading about your adventures in CA!
Must have been an amazing experience to interview Chris Pratt.
Sounds like he is going to be playing a great role.. Star Wars is a classic.
Wow! You are THE celeb-queen. I don’t know this movie and very illiterate when it comes to Starwars info, but I love the reference you made about him standing a little taller after the Iconic Hero comment. In studying courses about “understanding men,” I’ve been able to observe this in ALL men. They just love compliments, though they will probably never admit to it. 🙂
What an awesomely, fun interview! I love his excitement. Although, I have to say, he is cuter in person than he is as Star-Lord.
You know you are a big deal when you have a LEGO set after you! He’s adorable!
Ha…so true Autumn!
Such an awesome experience! I would have loved to have interviewed Chris Pratt!
I will bet that your nephew confiscates that action figure IF he figures out you have it! I loved Star Wars-but was never into comics so I have no idea who these action guys are. Chris sounds like a normal human being-he gave you and you wrote up a very good interview recap.
What an amazing experience! Sitting down for an interview with Chris Pratt must have been surreal!
I can’t wait to watch it again and see even more action from Chris Pratt.
