Paddington Movie

Since the film was moved from Christmas Day to January 16th, my family couldn’t be more excited for the new Paddington movie to arrive in theaters next week.

Though I’ve always been familiar with the much-loved bear, I really didn’t know his “story”, having never read any of the books. I decided that I must change that, and BEFORE the movie. Thankfully, my friends at HaperCollins hooked me up and we’ve been spending many a night giggling!

Let me assure you that reading any of these books will not spoil the movie. In fact, I believe that they will help your children love and appreciate Paddington even more! Best of all, there are books for every age group, from the youngest of toddlers to avid readers.

To get to know Paddington might I suggest the basics, a picture book and classic treasury, to tell the tales:

Over fifty years ago, a small bear set out on an adventure of a lifetime. With nothing but a suitcase, several jars of marmalade, and a label around his neck that read, Please Look After This Bear, he stowed away on a ship headed for faraway England. When the little bear arrived at London’s busy Paddington Station, he was discovered by Mr. and Mrs. Brown. As luck would have it, the Browns were just the sort of people to welcome a lost bear into their family.

Paddington (picture book) – the classic story (32 pages), this story ends after Paddington’s first day at the Brown home (the infamous bathroom scene).

The Paddington Treasury: Six Classic Bedtime Stories – this 160-page treasury features the classic Paddington story above plus the following:

  • Paddington at the Palace
  • Paddington at the Zoo
  • Paddington in the Garden
  • Paddington and the Marmalade Maze
  • Paddington the Artist

A Bear Called Paddington – a 176-page chapter book,  this is the one my daughter and I loved reading each night before bed. Oh, the giggles!

But if you want one that mirrors the storyline of the Paddington movie releasing next week, you’ll want Paddington: The Junior Novel. This 144-page chapter book is a junior novel with images from the movie inside as well.

For the younger children, there are several “I Can Read” books, perfect for those learning to read and priced at just $3.99 each:

YOUNGER READERS:

Paddington: Meet Paddington (I Can Read Book 1) and Paddington: Paddington’s Adventures (I Can Read Book 1), both which feature images from the film.

Also complete with scenes from the movie (priced at $3.99 and 24-pages long) are Paddington: Paddington in London and Paddington: Paddington’s World (the last one filled with activities like mazes and puzzles in addition to the story).

And for our youngest crowd, the Paddington board books are idea and so sturdy:

Paddington Bear All Day Board Book and Paddington Bear Goes to Market Board Book!

Are you going to see Paddington at the movie theater with your family?

We will be there!
