Have you heard the news?
I couldn’t wait to tell you (as I’ve had this post typed up for quite a while now). Olaf’s Frozen Adventure Television Debut is THIS WEEK!
Did you ever wonder why Olaf’s Frozen Adventure was 21 minutes in length? Sounds like the perfect 30-minute holiday special with commercials added in, right?
Yes, our favorite friends from Arendelle will be the newest addition to Disney|ABC Television’s “25 Days of Christmas”, the calendar that every child goes by!
Disclaimer: Disney*Pixar invited me to California on an all-expenses paid trip, in exchange for my coverage of events.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure Television Debut
Disney|ABC Television’s “25 Days of Christmas” celebration adds “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” Television Debut THURSDAY, DEC. 14 (8:00-8:30 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network.
It joins Disney Animation’s Emmy Award-winning holiday special “Prep & Landing”, which airs 8:30-9:00 p.m. EST.
FUN FACT: Directors Stevie Wermers-Skelton & Kevin Deters, who directed “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” were the same directors who directed “Prep & Landing”!
Be sure to check out my Olaf’s Frozen Adventure interviews with directors and songwriters, and even gave you a few Easter Eggs to look for while watching this week!
Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
Just hours before heading to the COCO red carpet premiere, we ventured over to the Roy E. Disney Animation Building for what was to be a memorable afternoon.
We not only interviewed the directors and songwriters for “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” as mentioned above, but we had the chance to learn a bit about the animation process from two of the talented animators who worked on the featurette.
Oh, and did I mention I got to build a snowman?
Well, sort of!
I built a snowman on paper.
We had an incredible drawing demo of “Olaf” thanks to the animators.
(Animation Supervisor Chad Sellers, myself, and Animator Michael Franceschi)
Anyone who knows me knows that there might be a few sketches around the house, so I was thrilled at this opportunity.
My Olaf isn’t half bad? Right?
Animation Tid-Bits from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure
Sellers and Franceschi took us through some basic steps to animation, some challenges they faced, and how they get into character.
Surprisingly, animators often act scenes out (and film themselves too) in order to really push their limits and creativity. We saw this firsthand as Sellers showed us some really rough film where he tackled the challenge of showing emotion on screen through the character of Elsa.
Speaking of Anna and Elsa, one thing you will know about this Christmastime storyline is that the sisters are closer than ever, which makes sense since it takes place just 6 months after we left them last. Because the sisters are closer emotionally,, the color palette of the dresses they wear was intentionally made closer too.
But there was one aspect of the colors and patterns that I fell in love with. If you’ve seen the featurette already (as it was playing before COCO), you noticed one sequence which looked like a sweater pattern.
Take a look…
As a parting gift that day, Disney surprised us with our very own Olaf’s Frozen Adventure scarves, complete with the pattern from the movie.
I’m in love, and though my daughter might have permission to borrow it now and then, the scarf is most definitely mine!

I really enjoyed the “sweater pattern” part of the featurette too. I don’t think I have ever seen animation of that kind before! Your scarf is beautiful.
Thanks Renee! The scarf is definitely something special I’ll hold onto!
I CANNOT WAIT for this short!!! I have it set to record! And that sweater pattern is the absolute best!
We’ll be watching too! 🙂
How fun is this! I love the Frozen scarf. My girls are really looking forward to watching Olaf’s Frozen Adventure on TV this week. I’m hoping it becomes our new family holiday tradition.
I have a feeling it will be one of our new traditions too Jenn!
