Puppy Dog Pals – Get the Scoop
Tomorrow, Friday, April 14th, the new Disney series for young children, Puppy Dog Pals will premiere! Set the DVR now so your kids won’t miss it if they are napping OR if they are like my child and want to watch things over and over and over again!
Puppy Dog Pals Premiere: debuts Friday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back episodes on Disney Channel. The premiere episode will also become available that day on the Disney Junior app and Disney Junior YouTube page.
While in San Francisco last month, I was able to sit down and enjoy an advanced screening of the premiere episode. Actually I should correct myself to say 2 episodes, because really each episode is two different 11-minute episodes back to back. Kids will LOVE that!

Verdict
Your kids will fall in love with Puppy Dog Pals!
How do I know? I’m the mom who sat in the living room with my daughter as she was growing up and watched every show with her, that is, until I realized…duh, Disney isn’t going to have anything I wouldn’t approve of on this show for preschoolers!
Interestingly enough, executive producer Sean Coyle mentioned the same thing when we had the chance to chat with him at the screening event. He said, “With Disney there’s a standard of quality. I know with my kids I could just turn on something Disney and sort of leave them there if I wanted to and know that there wasn’t gonna be anything suspect or anything controversial. And that’s something else that we really kept in mind” (in the making of Puppy Dog Pals).

The Right Audience and the Puppy Dog Pal Characters
Created by comedian Harland Williams and executive-produced by Sean Coyle, Puppy Dog Pals was created with the ages 2-5 in mind.
While older kids might find the animated show a little on the young side, I have a sneaking suspicion even my elementary-aged daughter would love this.
One word – DOGS!
Diane Ikemiyashiro, Director of Original Programming at Disney Junior, explained to us that “at the core of this particular show it’s all about the family unit. And the two pug puppies they’re brothers, and they love each other. They are very rambunctious. And they really, really support each other, and they have different personalities. They have friends all throughout the neighborhood that they meet and all around the world. So it’s about family bonds, being friends, making friends, being a good brother”.
On a side note, Sean Coyle knew that there were some parents like me who tend to watch what their kids are watching (or at least listen)! I mean, how many of us can sing the theme songs to our kids favorite shows? He knew Puppy Dog Pals needed to be a show that adults didn’t mind spending time with either. He’s been there as the parent of two little kids. He knows.
Puppy Dog Pals Junkyard Dog – Celebrity Voice Trivia
The junkyard dog, Bulworth, will be voiced by none other than Huey Lewis!

Puppy Dog Pals San Francisco, World Adventures and More
Puppy Dog Pals will take your kids on adventures, sometimes in their own neighborhood, but sometimes around the world. As an avid traveler, that is something that I LOVED in one of the two episodes in which Hawaii is featured. It’s not going to be an isolated incident on the series. Sean mentioned, “we hope with this show, the different adventures they go on, show them that the world is a fun place. It’s a diverse place. It’s a wonderfully, colorful, amazing place with, you know, all sorts of different things to see”.
Diane added, “Whether it’s in their neighborhood, ’cause there are a lot of episodes where we stay in the neighborhood. They go out all around the town, at the park, the theatre. Or they have adventures, like you saw, in the house. And then they also go all over the world and all over the country. We’re gonna see a lot of adventures throughout the series where they meet a lot of different types of characters and learn new things”.

With at least 25 episodes (that’s 50 stories) in our future, kids will have plenty of time to enjoy Puppy Dog Pals and let Disney know they want more!
