Congratulations to #217 Chantal C
I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sure whether I’d enjoy watching Snow White and the Huntsman . I’m a die-hard Disney fan. Snow White was one of my first movies as a child. I love the fairy-tale story, the charm of the Seven Dwarfs Cottage, and the image of Snow White riding off with the Prince. Watching a version that brought the evil queen to life…..I wasn’t so sure I wanted that.
BUT, when the opportunity arose to see the film, I just couldn’t say no. I was curious.
Universal Home Entertainment released Snow White and The Huntsman featuring Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital Copy & Ultraviolet on September 11th.
Here’s the Scoop:
Venture into a land of action fantasy, heroic battle scenes and visual wonder. Packed with pulse-pounding battles, unmatched visual imagination and compelling characters, Snow White and the Huntsman is a wholly original adventure story told on an epic scale. From the splendor of the wicked Queen’s enchanted palace to the menace of the Dark Forest, a breathtaking combination of harrowing beauty, epic battle scenes, visual wonder and jaw-dropping special effects make this film singularly suited for the incomparable high-definition picture and perfect hi-def 5.1 surround sound of Blu-ray ™.
About 30 minutes into the film, I looked at my husband and said, “I guess Dopey and Doc won’t be making an appearance, huh?”. While I missed the music, fun, and joy of the Disney classic, this film is unique in its’ approach. It takes the story of Snow White to another level, bringing us details that just maybe we were all curious to find out.
It answered questions surrounding the importance of beauty for the evil queen. It showed us the beauty of how life was when Snow White’s mother was alive in the kingdom. It touched on the pain and suffering of two widowers, one being the King.
Charlize Theron was magnificent in her role as the evil queen. The sets were unbelievably beautiful or scary. The story had some unexpected twists and turns……and one that I should have caught, but totally missed it. I sat there on the couch mortified that I missed it. I’m not sharing….you’ll have to watch.
Overall, it’s a film I enjoyed. I’m very happy with the PG-13 rating, as they could have taken it to the next level, but didn’t need to.
Archery has increased in popularity in part due to films like Snow White & The Huntsman (and these others):
Hawkeye, The Avengers
Clint Barton, AKA “Hawkeye,” has no superhuman powers like his Avengers teammate, Captain America or superior technology like Ironman, but he is unbeatable in combat and a master archer to boot. And his arrows aren’t just ordinary arrows. Among them are tricksters with flares, explosives, electrical discharge, suction cups, smoke bombs, boomerangs and more.
Legolas, Lord of the Rings
Legolas, an elf of the Woodland Realm and one of nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring, might be the quickest and fastest archer the big screen has ever seen. Of course, while his keen eyes, ears and fighting skills are of immense use to the Fellowship, his friendship and loyalty make him even more important.
Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games
Katniss hails from District 12, a coal-mining district that is the poorest district in the dystopian fictional nation of Panem. Outside the district’s borders, Katniss and her best friend, Gale, hone their hunting skills to keep their families fed. Her top-notch skill and determination are ultimately what gets her through the Hunger Games as a victor.
Who is more famous for perfect archery skills than Robin Hood? Historically, his motto of robbing the rich to give to the poor is as synonymous to him as his precise aim with a bow and arrow. His story has been told in over a dozen television and film incarnations starring the likes of Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, Cary Elwes, Russell Crowe and more.
As the daughter of Eytukan, the leader of the Omaticaya, it is not surprising that Neytiri knows how to use a bow and arrow. She begrudgingly takes on educating Jake Sully after her mother, a spiritual leader, deems him worthy. And even though she at first thinks him a fool, she eventually falls for him and together, they save Pandora from a human threat.
William, Snow White and the Huntsman
William, son of Duke Hammond, is traumatized as a child when he is unable to rescue Snow White from the evil queen and her maniacal brother. But as an adult – now an expert bowman – he is able to infiltrate a group of henchmen trying to find Snow White, who’s escaped, so he can successfully rescue her and help her reclaim the throne that is rightfully hers.
Have you ever tried archery…….used a bow & arrow? I did in high school and loved it!
