Goldfish Crackers are a staple in our home, and have been for years. We pack them up for after school or road trip snacks. We even love to get creative with them as you’ll see with a fun tic tac toe printable we’ve shared with you below!
But there was something I was curious about…
Do you know where the colors in Goldfish crackers come from?
I’ll admit I didn’t have a clue, but I knew it was from a good source. I just didn’t know what, so I set off to do some quick research!
FACT: Goldfish Crackers colors are sourced from plants!
As a mom, that’s exactly what I’m looking for, great-tasting snacks (and don’t they taste delicious?) that are free of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
Yes, Goldfish Crackers aren’t just top notch in book because of the colors, but there are no artificial flavors or preservatives in these colors. Oh, and did I mention that they are baked (yes, BAKED) with 100% Real Cheddar Cheese. Oh, and one more thing…the Baked with Whole Grain Cheddar variety has 12 g of WG per serving! That makes me smile!
I was out to lunch with a girlfriend this week and I mentioned this to her. She didn’t know. I’m betting most of you don’t know either, so I thought it would be fun to see what you and the kids thought the colors came from. There’s even more fun below as there’s an opportunity to vote and I’ve got a fun tic tac toe printable.

Goldfish Crackers Colors – Sourced from Plants, but which ones?
- Red: The red Goldfish crackers are colored using a mix of red beet juice concentrate and paprika extracted from sweet red peppers. Wholesome and colorful. You can’t beat that.
- Green: The green Goldfish crackers color comes from watermelon & Huito juice concentrates mixed with extracted Turmeric. That’s Huito. Pronounced wee-toe. Colorful and fun to say!
- Yellow: The yellow Goldfish crackers color comes from extracted Turmeric. A beautiful color that makes you think of warm sunshine on a perfect day.
- Blue: Our subtle blue crackers come from Huito (derived from South American fruit) and Watermelon juice concentrates. These crackers have so much fun, they never get the blues.

Goldfish Tic Tac Toe Printable
We are a competitive family. It doesn’t matter whether we are playing a simple game of Old Maid or a more strategic game of RISK.
Lately, we are trying to up our game with Tic Tac Toe, teaching our daughter the different strategies that we use to win the game. But wouldn’t it be fun if instead of using crayons or pencils, we marked our spots with a Goldfish Cracker? One that you could eat at the conclusion of the quick game?
Maybe even winner take all? Ooooh, things just got more interesting!

I have always loved goldfish crackers but since I was pregnant I’ve been craving them non-stop. Even still and my son is now 3 months old! They are just soooo good! I bet my son will love them too!
Oh yes, I’m sure your son will grow up to love them too – I haven’t outgrown them yet! 🙂
Fun game. I voted for red and was surprised to see green in the lead.
the whole family loves goldfish crackers, we don’t ever let ourselves run out of them!
Us too Cynthia…always stocked!
Goldfish are a staple at our house, too! I love the saltine, parmesan and baby packages but my kids love the colorful Goldfish. That’s a very fun printable! I might shrink it down and make it portable for road trips!
Ooooh, definitely a fun road trip activity! I’m with you, we love all the Goldfish…we don’t discriminate. 😉
My family has been fans of Goldfish Crackers since my 40 year old was a child. Even my 36 year old baby boy still gets Goldfish from Santa in his stocking every year! Ha!!
I’m loving them even more now that I know how they get their colors. Especially the tumeric ingredient. Tumeric is SO good for us!
Santa is smart!!!
That is great news I always have the flavor blasted here. Love the extra cheddar
