Whether you live in Texas and are looking for a weekend getaway or want a resort that ensures family fun, I know just the place…..Great Wolf Lodge at Grapevine, Texas. Located in the heart of Dallas/Ft Worth and close to the D/FW International Airport, it’s an ideal spot for a stay in town, but a warning…….you may never leave the resort. It’s that fun!
I had the opportunity to visit during a special press event, and as soon as I drove up, I knew that staying at this resort would be a one-of-a-kind experience. The grown-up in me was excited about the Starbucks shop inside and the amazingly large gift shop (Texas-sized)!! My daughter and nephew were excited about….well, EVERYTHING!
Here are some of our favorite things……..
1. Wake Up with Wiley and Friends Character Breakfast (currently only at Grapevine, TX location)
You’ll want to make reservations for this character breakfast as it is only an option at the Grapevine location. You’ll enjoy breakfast with Wiley the Wolf, Violet or Oliver. Who’s Oliver? Well, Oliver the Raccoon is a new friend who came to stay in April of this year.
Other than one-on-one time with some special friends, you’ll receive Wolf Ears (see, I’m wearing mine above left, next to Wiley the Wolf), and special character trading cards. My daughter fell in love with Violet, but loved learning about all the characters through the cards.
Currently the character breakfast is held Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., but was offered daily during the summer.
2. Water-Park Fun Come Rain or Shine
A certain boy and girl I knew couldn’t wait to put on their swimsuits and head to the indoor water park. What I didn’t realize was that there was also a water-park, complete with fun slides, outdoors too. So, whether you wanted to bathe in the sun or stay cool while the kids played, there was something for you.
Best of all, it doesn’t matter whether it’s summer or winter, sunny or rainy…….the kids can play at the indoor water-park. While we were there it started lightening outside and they had to shut down the outdoor part. No worries…..everyone came inside and continued the fun there.
The weather can’t ruin your vacation! 🙂
3. Great Wolf Lodge Grand Lobby
The Grand Lobby is amazing in so many ways, but perhaps the greatest is that it truly entertains children, which can be a challenge during check-in or check-out if there are lines. From the coloring boards (which my daughter discovered above), to the Clock Tower Show and occasional visits by characters, one is already experiencing the Great Wolf Lodge hospitality at its’ best in the lobby.
At night-time, you’ll want to have the kids wear their pajamas and enjoy favorite bedtime stories by the fireplace in the Grand Lobby. Characters are available for photos too.
4. Cub Club and Lazer Frenzy
The Cub Club is a place where the kids can check-in and enjoy making crafts and souvenirs to take home. A Disney movie was playing while we visited and there were free coloring items for kids to enjoy as well. Painting t-shirts and pillowcases looked to be the hot items at the time.
But here is what I raved about to my husband. In fact, I’m pretty sure we both will be headed here soon just for some fun…….the arcade-style maze, Lazer Frenzy!
Navigate over, under and around the laser beams quickly to get to the other side of the maze. Once you’ve reached the checkpoint button, navigate back to the beginning to complete the mission and receive your score. There were different difficulty levels……ones where the beams move too!
Mission Impossible! 🙂
5. Holiday Events
It’s this time of year that I get really excited about what Great Wolf Lodge has to offer……the holidays!
First up is Howl-O-Ween, which occurs between October 11 and October 31, 2012.
- Pumpkin painting & seasonal crafts in Cub Club
- Meet and greet with the Great Wolf Kids characters dressed in their Halloween costumes
- Costume parade
- Collect candy and other goodies along the Trick-or-Treat Trail
- Evening no-so-scary Spooktacular Story Time in the Grand Lobby
- Monster Bash Dance Party (Fridays and Saturdays)
If that wasn’t enough fun for you, you’ll want to head back in December for Snowland festivities!
December’s Snowland festivities include:
- Daily snow shows inside the Grand Lobby
- Special appearances by Santa Claus
- Cub Club transforms into Santa’s workshop with a writing depot, wrapping depot and toy creation station
- North Pole University – Complete fun, holiday assignments to earn your “Snowploma,” arcade tokens and surprise gift!
- Great Clock Tower Holiday Show and Story Time with Rowdy the Reindeer.
If you are wanting a family getaway for the weekend or during the holidays, this is one resort where you know you’ll have fun!
(I attended a press event where complimentary water park passes were provided. All opinions are the honest statements of the author, me!)
