So excited to bring you these Rice Krispie Holiday Treats! A couple years ago when I was room mom at my daughter’s school, I didn’t have many volunteers at all. So, I had to quickly come up with ideas. I needed quick and easy since I was providing many snacks.
One of my favorites was so easy…..have you seen my DIY Snowman Drinks made from Capri Sun or Kool-Aid type drink pouches? Then I remembered something my mom used to do at Christmas.
Mom always made Rice Krispie Christmas Trees.
I was going to do things a little differently than my mom though.
My version:
-
- Make a batch of Rice Krispie Treats (follow directions on box) and spread in 13×9 baking pan to cool.
- When cooled, cut into small triangles no more than 2 inches wide at its’ base.
- Stick a small pretzel in the base for the tree trunk.
- Decorate tree with green icing (I put icing in Ziploc bag and cut a small hole in one corner to easily pipe the icing)
- Decorate with candies – I found these cute candy cane hard candies at a craft store.
Mom’s version:
- She differed in that during the making of the Rice Krispie Treats, she added green food coloring to the batch and stirred it in so the trees would be solid green.
- She made the Christmas trees much bigger
- She used red hots for ornaments on the tree
- She used thick pretzel rods (cut up) for the tree base
For some variety at the party, I also made Rice Krispie Ornaments.
- Make a batch of Rice Krispie Treats (follow directions on box) and spread in 13×9 baking pan to cool.
- When cooled, use a round cookie cutter to cut into the ornament shapes.
- Decorate with green icing using Chevron pattern (I put icing in Ziploc bag and cut a small hole in one corner to easily pipe the icing)
- Attache a gumdrop to the very top with a tiny bit of icing
TIP: You could also decorate with candies like M&Ms and candy canes!
Enjoy and don’t forget to check out my easy DIY Snowman Drinks made from Capri Sun or Kool-Aid type drink pouches!
